![]() When you think of the right side of the brain, what do you imagine? Does it look like the image on the left? If so, then great. But, you are wrong. People have often thought this. But in reality, the right side of the brain looks just liked the left side in the right image. Why though? Because they both do the same things, just different ways. ![]() Throughout history, the power of the right side of the brain has been underestimated. In Daniel Pink's article Right Brain Rising, he says, "But as he put it, 'The so-called subordinate or minor hemisphere, we had formerly supposed to be illiterate and mentally retarded and thought by some authorities to not even be conscious, was found to be in fact the superior cerebral member when it came to performing certain kinds of mental tasks.'" He says the theory of the right side was wrong. The right side is in fact superior. But the two sides work differently. The left deals with sequences, analytics, and words while the right deals with patterns, expressions, and emotions. The two sides of the brain are at the same level of importance. They not only process information differently, but they also control the opposite sides of the body. If the the right side of the brain would deteriorate, the left side of the body would o numb. Just like the left. Therefore, the two are both needed to lead a happy, healthy, functional life.

![]() Throughout Habits of the Mind, many of the habits contradicted each other. But there were others that combined, making a great teams hand when they were alone. I felt that the most significant example was Persisting and Thinking_Flexibly. The two habits go hand-in-hand together. In the Persisting section, the authors say, "They collect evidence that their strategy is working, and if one strategy doesn't work, they know how to back up and try another." In the Thinking Flexibly section, the authors state, "They tolerate confusion and ambiguity up to a point and are willing to let go of a problem, trusting their subconscious to continue creative and productive work on it." I feel like the two could relate to each other because they both require back up strategies, in case the first one fails, The habits help each other because Thinking Flexibly is willing to let go of a problems at the point of confusion, but they will try another Links below for Habits of the Mind and more: www.teachhub.com/teaching-strategies-16-habits-mind www.ascd.org/publications/books/108008/chapters/Describing-the-Habits-of-Mind.aspx ![]() The most important thing I noticed about Terry Schott's writing choices in The Game was the fact that he often switched the point of view to different characters. Zach, the main character, was the male main character of the book. But, his character in the stimulation was Tre. As Zach went in and out of the stimulation room, the point of view changed along with them. The plot became very confusing because of dealing with different problems in the real and alternate world. |
